Hello!

N’deliwizi Laura D. (My name is Laura D.) I am from the Abenaki First Nation of Quebec, and practice the art of tattoos, piercing, painting and crafting. My heritage lineage descends from the Obomsawin and M’Sadoquis lines of Odanak, Quebec.

My M’Sadoquis heritage is present in my work under the name ‘Medicine Hands Mazo D’kowiz’. Mazo, meaning ‘magic/spirit/ energy’ and D’kowiz meaning ‘making/maker of’. Thus, your spirit/energy is used to create and is a part of what you make.

This is used in my Instagram handle medicinehands.mazodkowiz and in my email contact medicinehandsmazo@gmail.com.

I opened my first Tattoo and Piercing studio in 2007. I owned a successful studio in Selkirk, Manitoba for 7 years before moving back to BC where I grew up. I opened Body Art by Laura D in South Surrey in 2015, before working with this great group of people at Blacklist Tattoo.

I am currently making art on folks with piercing/tattooing, and making art or crafting with beads or other mediums. I run a free weekly crafting workshop for anyone wanting to learn or try something new, with the main focus on beadwork but not limited to it. I invite crafters of varying mediums to come and share knowledge with fellow crafters and have a great time.

I have offered original art for sale since the late 2000s. I am currently dappling in beadwork, acrylics, watercolor, ink, fibers, and digital art. I also previously owned a metal work and jewelry studio, working in silver, copper and glass beads.
